FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you perform payroll services?

No. Firms such as Paychex can deliver payroll services at very competitive prices. I know some reps if you’re interested in contacting them.

2. Can you help me with tax planning?

Yes. Basic tax planning strategies are well known and widely published. I include basic tax planning for next year free of charge with the preparation of your return.

3. Why should I use an accountant when I can do my taxes on my own?

I offer my services so that you don’t have to worry about being a tax expert. Those in the tax profession spend thousands of dollars on the best software and tax code subscription services as well as many hours of continuing education each year. Maybe your taxes have been simple in the past but you just began to sell stock, you purchased or sold a home, you have rental property or a small business and you just want to make sure that things are recorded properly.

4. Why don’t I use one of those chain accounting stores?

I can offer you a guarantee that the only person who will look at your personal information and work on your tax return is a CPA. CPAs are held to very high professional standards and ethics requirements. If you use a larger firm, chances are your return will be prepared by a non-CPA staff member and then signed off on by a CPA. This is common practice in the industry.

5. When I was gathering information to prepare my taxes, I noticed a mistake on last year’s return. Can you help?

Yes. This is more common than you think. We can simply amend last year’s return and refile it.

6. In addition to my individual return, I have a small S corporation. Can you do the year end bookkeeping for the corporation as well?

Yes. I can look at the state of your books and agree on a time budget for the corporate portion of your return. Your individual return will be priced based on complexity ($135 +).

7. I never receive K-1s on time from my partnerships. What should I do?

We can estimate your tax liability based on last year’s activity and file an extension for your tax return.

8. Where is your office?

I work out of my home. I will meet you for consultations at the location of your choosing. Coffee shops, Barnes and Noble, etc… are all great places to meet. I keep my costs low by not having an office and pass those savings to you via my price structure.
